INDORE: A special (POCSO) court has convicted a 24-year-olld man for allegedly raping a 16-year-old minor girl awarding 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and Rs 2000 fine on basis of DNA report.

During the hearing the complainant and rape survivor became hostile. The court however based on DNA reports of the kid, which matched with the accused convicted him considering it as conclusive evidence, prosecution stated.Special Judge (POCSO court) Prachi Patel convicted Suresh alias Surpal Singh, 24, under sections 5(L) read conjointly with section 6 of POCSO act. The court has observed that crimes against children have been increasing in the present context, which had to be prevented. Suresh had committed a serious crime, the court stated in the judgement. The case related to an incident of July 2017; wherein 16-year-old victim went missing.

A report was lodged at Chaigaon Makhan police station on the complaint of the grandmother of the victim, who was first to know about the disappearance. The girl was cleaning the dishes, when she went missing from behind her house, stated the prosecution story.
