Minor girl’s case: Residents protest outside Gandhi Nagar police station
Indore: Tension gripped Gandhi Nagar area on Friday night after residents blocked traffic at Gommatgiri Square and staged a protest outside the police station, alleging that police had diluted a case involving an 11-year-old girl.
The protesters alleged that the child was sexually assaulted, but police registered a case only for molestation and under the POCSO Act. They also alleged that no medical examination was conducted and that more accused were involved in the incident.
Gandhi Nagar ACP Nidhi Saxena said, the girl approached police on Thursday and reported molestation by a middle-aged man from the locality. Based on her complaint, police registered a case and arrested the accused.
Angered by the police action, local residents gathered at Gommatgiri Square on Friday night and later surrounded the police station, demanding that more serious charges be added. Balai community leader Manoj Parmar joined the protest and accused police of failing to register appropriate sections despite the gravity of the allegations.
Police station in-charge Anil Yadav denied the allegation that no medical examination was conducted, stating that the girl’s medical test was carried out and further action would be taken based on the report.
