Illegal arms factory busted in Burhanpur forest
Indore: Burhanpur police unearthed an illegal firearm manufacturing unit operating from a forested area in Pachori village and seized a cache of weapon-making equipment.
Burhanpur SP Ashutosh Bagri said that the breakthrough came after Nepanagar police arrested Brajesh alias Bunty Davre, 46, a resident of E-Type Colony in Nepanagar, with a country-made pistol and a sharp-edged weapon. Police later searched his residence and recovered another pistol along with four live cartridges.
A case was registered under the Arms Act and Davre was taken into custody. During questioning, he disclosed that the weapons had been supplied by Ajit Singh alias Dediya, a resident of Dhulkot village in Khargone’s Bhagwanpura area.
Acting on the information, a joint team led by Khaknar police station in-charge Abhishek Jadhav and Nepanagar police station in-charge Gyanu Jaiswal conducted a raid in the forest area of Pachori village in Burhanpur.
Police said two suspects, Ajit Singh and Thakur, fled from the spot after noticing the police team. Officers recovered a semi-finished country-made pistol, two magazines, a barrel and a large quantity of equipment allegedly used for manufacturing firearms. The seized items included grinder machines, a drill machine, blowers, hammers, chisels, files, pliers, cutting blades and other fabrication tools.
Investigators suspect the accused and their associates were involved in manufacture and supply of illegal firearms across the region. A separate case has been registered against the absconding persons.
