Fire breaks out at plastic bag making unit in Pithampur
Indore: A major fire broke out at a plastic bag manufacturing factory in Pithampur on Thursday morning, triggering panic in the industrial area.
CSP Ravi Soner said that the blaze erupted around 9.30 am in scrap yard of Flexituff Technologies and quickly intensified after reaching drums containing thinner and paint.
Thick plumes of smoke could be seen billowing from the factory yard as fire tenders rushed to the spot to prevent the flames from spreading to adjoining sections of the plant. Officials said that over 100 workers present inside the factory were evacuated and no casualties were reported.
According to preliminary information, as the fire started in scrap yard, employees tried to contain the flames after noticing smoke emerging from the yard, but presence of combustible material caused the fire to spread rapidly.
Fire officials said two fire tenders reached the factory premises, but additional vehicles were later called in from nearby industrial units as the blaze intensified. By afternoon, six fire tenders were engaged in the firefighting operation.
The exact extent of damage is yet to be assessed. Officials said that the factory appeared to lack adequate first-response firefighting arrangements on the premises.
