IMPHAL: Unidentified armed men on Wednesday gunned down a village chief and another youth near the Bongbal Khullen area near
Imphal East district

, and Th Haokip (19), were travelling in a jeep when the gunmen shot at them, sources said, adding that they died inside the vehicle. Police rushed to the spot and conducted a search operation to nab the attackers but no one was pulled up.

strongly condemned the duo's killing.
A statement issued by KIM on Wednesday night appealed to the state government to arrest the culprits within 24 hours before the situation comes into tense.
"If the culprits are not pulled up within the stipulated time, the government should take all responsibilities for any unwanted incidents when public agitation occurs," cautioned KIM.
"We are also surprised about the law and order situation in Manipur whether the government has done their duty in order to maintain peace and harmony among the communities of Manipur," it said.
The KSO said that everything can be solved through dialogue and such anti-social activities only disturb the peaceful environment of the society.
It appealed to the perpetrators to spell out the reason behind the killing at the earliest.
The murder comes less than a week after a village chief was kidnapped while he was working at a brick kiln he owned, but was rescued later.
