IMPHAL: Taking serious note of the unceasing public unrest gripping the state for two months now, the Global
Manipur Federation (GMF) has urged CM N Biren Singh and all legislators of the state to commit to confidence building measures by doing, “not by being good for nothing.”
A conglomerate of Meitei people living in different continents — Asia, Australia, Middle East, America, Africa and Europe, the GMF, in an open letter sent to the CM and the MLAs on Monday said, “We cannot stand the ugly incidents and rambling injustice that happened on the soil of our beloved mother, Manipur.”
Written from Sydney, the federation shared its empathy with the fellow Manipuris undergoing profound pains on
the ground for two months.
“Right from Day 1, we have waited and watched so anxiously, longing for the crisis to end and normalcy to be restored there and during such prolonged agonised days, New Delhi has failed to act promptly and to respond fairly,” it added. Many more lives continue to be lost, property is left to the miscreants to be destroyed widespread, thousands of children, women and elderly citizens are living like refugees in their own home land.
The overall situation remains in a state of collapse, with educational institutions closed, daily work and businesses disrupted, transportation halted, and, most importantly, paddy farming challenged.
“To be honest, we have not seen and sensed that CM and legislators have done what they could have done,” it lamented.
“We were waiting the first two weeks that the CM would do something affirmative to end the crisis and to restore normalcy. Unfortunately, that did not happen,” continued the letter.
“Our concern is – how long will the people’s CM, the ruling ministers, present MLAs continue to allow the nightmare haunts Manipur? Will the government of Manipur continue to remain dumb but witness a paralysed state?” questioned the federation.
