Imphal: Eminent filmmaker Mayanglambam Romi Meitei’s ‘Eikhoigi Yum’ (Our House) has won the FIPRESCI award for the ‘Best International Film’ and NETPAC JURY Special Mention Award at the 27th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK).
The eight-day festival, which concluded on Friday, showcased 180 films screened at 14 theatres, and over 13,000 film delegates registered for it, read a statement issued by the state-run Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) on Sunday.
Set in Loktak, the biggest freshwater lake in the northeast, with the fishing community facing eviction notice, the film is a narrative on the impact of globalisation on a small remote village that compels the residents to move away in an attempt to eke out a livelihood.
“Eikhoi Yum” competed in the international competition that had 14 films from several countries, including Germany, Bolivia, Tanzania, Brazil, Iran, Israel, Vietnam, Turkey and Spain, the statement added.
The 89-minute fiction feature film, produced by Chingshubam Sheetal and Romi, had earlier won the ‘best feature film award’ at the 14th Manipur State Film Awards 2022, organised by MSFDS, it said.
The society congratulates Romi and his entire film crew for bringing glory to Manipuri cinema at the international forum, the statement added.
