Imphal: Health and family welfare minister S Ranjan Singh on Sunday visited the newly set up Churachandpur Medical College (CMC) and said its first academic session would start from October.
Located at the headquarters of the Kuki-Chin-Mizo-dominated Churachandpur district, about 65 km from Imphal, the new college will have 100 MBBS seats.
A few days ago, the Medical Assessment & Rating Board of the National Medical Commission, New Delhi, had written to the college authorities to start its maiden MBBS course for 100 seats from the current academic year.
The college is the second state-run medical college, the first being Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal East district.
“It is now ready for inauguration” said the minister who is also a doctor.
While interacting with the new faculty members, Ranjan urged the young doctors and faculties to walk the extra mile. Their dedicated and sincere service will make it possible to achieve the aim of establishing the medical college, he said.
Legislator LM Khaute, representing the Churachandpur seat, said having a medical college in Churachandpur district is a good sign of development of the state.
