Fresh gunbattle resumes in Manipur’s Moreh town

Imphal: A fresh bout of gunfight between unidentified gunmen and security forces resumed in the India-Myanmar border town of Moreh at 8:30 am on Monday, resulting in the breakdown of economic activities in the region.The district magistrate had relaxed curfew from 6 am to 9 am on Monday during which the gunbattle started. A security source said the armed men opened fire from near a hotel located in close proximity, specifically targeting security personnel. So far, there are no reports of casualties. Earlier on Sunday evening, a fierce gunbattle broke out at Moreh’s Ward No. 9 when unidentified gunmen armed with sophisticated weapons launched an attack on state police forces. According to a report, Moreh Police confiscated one non-diffused lethal explosive in the Dharmasala area of Moreh town, which seems to have been thrown during Sunday’s ambush. Security forces and bomb disposal squad members safely disposed of the explosive.Moreh has become an epicentre for clashes between security personnel and armed militants. The situation in Moreh highlights the challenges faced by security personnel in dealing with armed invasions.
