CBSE row: Kuki MLAs urge Shah to reinstate 3 suspended officers

Imphal: Days after the state government suspended three Kuki officers for their alleged fraudulent acts in securing affiliation of 26 schools to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), 10 Kuki-Zomi-Hmar legislators of the state on Sunday wrote to Union home minister Amit Shah, requesting him to reinstate the trio.
This comes amid the extensive arrangements made by the state government to admit students displaced by the ongoing ethnic crisis to educational institutions located in their safety areas.
On Friday, government placed under suspension Jangkhohao Haokip and Lhingtinneng, zonal education officers of Churachandpur and Kangpokpi respectively, and L Taithui, deputy inspector of schools, Samulamlan block of ZEO, Churachandpur.
On December 22, the state government had set up a committee to investigate into the recent fraudulent issuance of NOC to the central board. Upon issuance of the NOC by unauthorized persons to obtain affiliation of schools to the central board, the latter revoked its affiliation from 26 schools in Kuki-Zomi dominated Churachandpur and Kangpoki districts. According to standing rules, the NOC should be issued by authorized functionaries of the state government.
The suspended officers “ were doing their legitimate duty keeping in mind the best interests of the affected schools & students, who could not pursue their studies for the past over 8 months,” the MLAs said.
