GUWAHATI: The attack on the two women of B Phainom village,who were paraded naked in Manipur on May 4, was spontaneous, authorities said, adding 'no fake video' of villages burnt and women raped had triggered it.

The fake video in question was circulated on Twitter on May 5 and on the same day the then Manipur DGP, P Doungel, had clarified that the video purported to be of a woman raped in Churachandpur was fake.
The video showed a picture of a woman's corpse wrapped in plastic; this was circulated as that of a woman who was sexually assaulted and killed in Churachandpur. It was later revealed that the video was of a girl who was allegedly murdered by her parents and her body later discarded in a red trolley bag near the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura in November 2022.
