7,000 moved to relief centres in worst-hit Churachandpur

Imphal: The Churachandpur administration on Sunday said it has swiftly evacuated nearly 7,000 people and shifted them to relief centres across the district, and among them around 1,500 people have been given ‘safe passage’.The administration has been actively working to maintain normalcy in the district, said a statement issued by the Manipur information and public relations department.Nearly 5,500 people have been safely shifted to the relief centres at the mini secretariat complex and four other places in the violence-hit district.The district administration is working round the clock to provide all basic amenities to the evacuated persons at the temporary relief camps, and continuous efforts are being undertaken to provide food, water, health and sanitation facilities to them, it said.Adequate number of security personnel have been deployed to protect people as well as vital infrastructure in the district, said the statement.The deputy commissioner is in continuous coordination with all the forces in the district, and special emphasis has been laid to ensure essential items reach people. As a confidence building measure, the security forces conducted a flag march on foot on Sunday around the Churachandpur town, it said.
