HYDERABAD: Municipal administration and urban development minister KT Rama Rao on Friday, said Telangana would emerge as India's first state to treat 100% sewerage and the deadline to achieve the feat is June.
He said the government will soon complete Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP) works and is considering outsourcing project maintenance to private agencies. During a discussion on grants to the municipal administration department, the minister said the government was focussing on infrastructure development, including improving nala works, sanitation, expanding greenery and restoring heritage sites.
"Telangana bagged 26 Swachh awards from 142 urban local bodies, states like Maharashtra with 331 municipalities and corporations could garner 27 awards. The state has been bagging Central awards, but not financial aid," KTR said adding the state government spent 55,000 crore in GHMC and other 141 municipalities.
