Telangana sets Sept 30 deadline for HSRP on vehicles

Hyderabad: The Telangana govt has instructed transport and police departments not to allow vehicles to ply on the roads without the affixation of a proper high-security registration plate (HSRP) after September 30. It ordered the officials to book cases against the violators if they didn't comply with the rules.In a GO, the state govt has asked all the district transport officers and registering authorities not to allow any kind of transactions related to vehicles that are not fitted with a proper HSRP. They shall comply with the orders to ensure that HSRPs are fitted on all motor vehicles registered prior to April 1, 2019.Additionally, insurance companies should ensure that vehicle insurance and pollution under control certificates are not issued or renewed without the affixation of an HSRP number plate on the vehicle. For all classes of vehicles registered prior to April 1, 2019, vehicle owners should get the HSRP affixed on their vehicles by September 30.Failing this, action will be taken as per the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and rules made thereunder to book cases against vehicles plying without a proper HSRP number plate. Vehicles plying on the road fitted with imitation HSRP/look-alike plates/smart number plates, such as those with holograms or IND marks, should mandatorily replace their registration plates with HSRPs conforming to rules to avoid penalties under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
