HYDERABAD: Caught on CCTV stealing roosters from a house, a 42-year-old man ended his life by consuming pesticide in Gangadevipadu village of Khammam's Penuballi mandal.

The accused, P Nageshwara Rao, was greatly anguished after the entire village had got to know about his stealing. Five days ago, Rao consumed pesticide and was shifted to a hospital. He succumbed on Wednesday.

"It is a fact that there was a CCTV footage of Rao but we cannot say for sure as to why he died by suicide," a police official said.

Penuballi police told TOI that no case was registered against Rao. Since it was a petty case, the matter was settled between the complainant, Y Srinivasa Rao, and Rao who had returned the roosters he had stolen.

It all began when a family in the village noticed that their hens were missing frequently. The family keeps a dog and began to wonder who could be stealing them. As the hens continued to disappear or being stolen, the family installed CCTV cameras to catch the culprit.

When the CCTV footage was monitored, the family identified Rao taking the roosters stealthily. The matter was taken to local cops with the CCTV footage evidence.

Rao was said to have been disturbed after this and reportedly felt ashamed that his act had not only been caught on CCTV but the entire village had got to know about it.
