HYDERABAD:
Telangana boxer Nikhat Zareen
is back in the news for right reasons. After creating a stir in the run-up to the
Tokyo Olympics
, the 25-year-old proved a point on Wednesday by clinching gold in the 52kg category at the National women’s boxing championships in Hisar, where she was also adjudged the ‘Best Boxer.’
As Nikhat put it, the 4-1 win over Haryana's Minakshi was very important for her. “This championship was very crucial for me with the winner directly getting a berth in the Indian team for the World championships,” she told TOI. “So I am extremely delighted with the gold medal here. It was an opportunity for me to prove a point. This is the result I wanted. Winning the “Best Boxer’ award is obviously a special moment for me,” she added.
The preliminary mission of qualifying for the Worlds accomplished, Nikhat wants to take a break for one week before she begins the hard grind for the Championships in Istanbul.
