income tax collections

during the past five years.

“The tax collections in the two Telugu states during 2014-15 financial year were Rs 31,762 crore and by 2018-19 finanical year the figure has reached Rs 58,404, registering 82.73 per cent increase,” Shankaran said. During this period, the tax collection growth for the entire country was 63.5 per cent.

The principal chief commissioner said that the income tax department has been accepting about 99.5 percent of the returns filed by the tax payers through voluntary compliance. “Only 0.5 per cent of the returns filed are being taken up for scrutiny. Through e-filing facility, the process of filing income returns has been simplified and majority are now filing through e-mode,” Shankaran said.
