‘Document, conserve rock formations for future generations’

Hyderabad: Heritage experts and enthusiasts have urged the state govt to take steps to protect Fakhruddin Gutta, Khajaguda, by documenting, inventorying, and conserving them for future generations as well as seeking official recognition from UNESCO.
On the occasion of International Geo Diversity Day 2024, Deccan Heritage Academy Trust (DHAT), in collaboration with retired experts from Geological Survey of India (GSI) and civil society groups, organised a ‘Geo Heritage Trail' and a talk on geodiversity at Fakhruddin Gutta, Khajaguda, on Sunday.
The event, themed ‘Conserving the Past – Sustaining the Future,' wanted to raise awareness about the importance of conserving geodiversity and protecting geological heritage sites in Telangana. Prof Veda Kumar Manikonda, Chairman of DHAT, emphasised the need for the state govt to take steps to protect these unique geological sites by documenting and conserving them for future generations.
Speakers at the event, former GSI officials and other experts highlighted the geological significance of the Deccan region, particularly Telangana, which boasts of a wide range of rock formations dating back millions of years.
