HANUMAKONDA: The body of a premature baby girl was found in a drain at Mulkanoor village of Bheemadevarpalli mandal in Hanumakonda district on Tuesday. The body was spotted by a Mulkanoor gram panchyat staff who informed the police.

Speaking to reporters, Mulkanoor SI M Mahender said, “We have not yet identified the baby’s parents. It is suspected that the family of the baby dumped the infant in the drain. We informed Hanumakonda childline officials who reached the spot and sent the body to MGM Hospital, Warangal, for post-mortem. A case has been registered under Section 318 of the IPC (concealment of birth by secret disposal of a dead body). A team has also been deployed to trace the child’s parents.”

Hanumakonda district child protection officer P Santosh Kumar said that informations are being collected from Anganwadi and Asha workers to check the details of women who gave birth to babies in the mandal recently.

In a similar incident in April this year, an infant baby girl was found dead by the roadside at Rangampet. People passing by found the body on the roadside covered in blood and informed Mattewada Police. The cops later shifted the body to MGM Hospital, Warangal.
