Hyderabad: As many as 30,000 residents of the Bahadurpura area have been reeling under an acute water crisis for the past three months with authorities doing little to deal with the issue.
Residents and public representatives from the area said that the thousands of households in the area are forced to make do with erratic water supply and polluted water. Several complaints to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewage Board have gone largely ignored, the claimed.
The most affected are residents of areas such as Farooq Nagar, Fatima Nagar and Hashamabad.
The issue is so severe that several residents have had to forgo their morning showers on a few occasions.
"For the past many weeks we have been receiving water supply only once a week. We are tired of running from pillar to post asking officials for help. We have made representations to the the local leaders. They in turn have spoken to the water works officials. But little has changed," said Mohammed Aslam, a resident of Fatima Nagar.
Bahadurpura legislator Moazzam Khan told TOI that he along with locals had recently staged a dharna at the HMWSSB office in the area after repeated complaints and requests to look into the issue yielded no results.
"We made proposals for laying new sewage lines but the proposals are returned on some technical issue or the other. Sanctions for works estimated to the cost of around Rs 1.5 crore are hanging in balance because of the attitude of the officials," he said.
