Conducted by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Commission (GHMC) with an aim to encourage the urban electorate and create awareness on vote registration, the ‘walk for democracy’ received a positive response with old and young participating to show their support for the cause. The walk that started at 7am from KBR park and ended at Jubilee Hills check post also saw GHMC commissioner, Dana Kishore, in attendance.

“During elections every vote counts. And it has been a trend that lesser urban voters exercise their right to vote than those in rural areas. Through this walk, GHMC aims to encourage as many urban voters as possible to use their voting powers,” said Hari Chandana Dasari, GHMC zonal commissioner, who is also the Nodal officer for voter awareness, Hyderabad.

As part of the programme, several participants took a pledge to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming state elections.

As 28-year-old Hema Chowdary shared, “Being a responsible citizen, it is our duty to not just use our voting rights but also show our support to government’s efforts in encouraging others to vote. By participating in the walk, I think I contributed my part.”
