HYDERABAD: The intensity of the monsoon in the city and state may reduce for a week before it picks up again, as per predictions of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The reason for the break is a monsoon low pressure area (LPA) which has intensified in Odisha. This will usher in rains in Odisha, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh regions reducing the impact in Telangana. IMD radars also show that monsoon winds over the state have not been as powerful as during its onset on June 21.

"The low pressure area over north Odisha will move towards north Madhya Pradesh in the next day, so moderate rains will occur only in north Telangana. However, it is not going to impact other parts of the state," said an official from IMD. To this effect, districts in northern parts of the state were issued yellow warning.

According to officials, while occasional spells could occur in some places in various districts, no long and intense spells are expected like last week, especially in Hyderabad. The sky however will remain overcast.

On Monday, highest rainfall was seen in Adilabad at 48.5mm, followed by Asifabad recording 28.5mm rainfall. In Hyderabad, only 2mm rainfall was reported at Kapra.
