hyderabad: noted writer, prof kancha ilaiah described decision of supreme court sentencing booker prize winner arundhati roy as ‘unfortunate’ and ‘harmful to democracy’. reacting to the court’s direction, author of popular book why i am not a hindu, ilaiah said he was surprised to know of the development. if the highest court of the land interferes with the right to speech of writers, the nation suffers from freedom of speech.the court should have treated arundhati roy as a writer rather than as an activist, he said.
