hyderabad: not much focus had been given to asian films at the international children's film festival of india (icffi), according to chairman of ap children's film society (apcfs) m veda kumar. it was only in 1995 the asian film section was incorporated into the iffi, veda kumar said in an interview with the times of india. in order to highlight these films, an asian film festival to exclusively screen asian films will be held next year, he said.
1x1 polls
the apcfs chairman said the emphasis would be on screening quality films rather than the number of films to be screened. a federation of children's film society of india would be formed by the month-end to produce quality films for children, he informed. the films would be sent to countries like japan, china, iran, bangladesh and sri lanka and films from these countries would also be collected by the society to be displayed at the asian film festival here. with the development of the children's film complex in 10 acres of land at jubilee hills, production of quality films would get a boost, he said. setting up a children's theatre with film archives will not suffice, there should be a film studio in the complex, he stressed. a children's film can be made casting adults and not necessarily children alone. but the angle of production should differ as it should not have a commercial angle, kumar said. the film can express feelings, portray reality giving room for creativity, but it should help the child's exploration and curiosity. on subsidies or grants for children's film-makers, he said the government should ensure that it be given to a right panel with a record of children's films with good script writers and cinematographers.
