Delay in women reservation Bill: BRS MLC K Kavitha to protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar on March 10
HYDERABAD: Demanding the BJP government to introduce women’s reservation bill in the current session of the parliament, BRS MLC and founder of Bharat Jagruthi Kalvakuntla K Kavitha would sit in protest peacefully at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on March 10.
Various women’s organisations and leaders from other states would also participate in the protest, she said.
"If the BJP has the will, it can pass the Bill in the Parliament as was done in case of three new farm laws a couple of years ago. We are inviting everybody who believes in the empowerment of women, as much as we do," Kavitha said at a press conference on Thursday.
Kavitha said Prime Minister Narendra Modi talks about "Nari Shakti" from Red Fort but in reality, he does nothing for women's empowerment, which the country has understood. "The BJP enjoys majority in the Parliament, if they could push and pass the three black farm laws, they can certainly push for and pass the women's reservation bill if they are willing to do the same", she said.
"The BJP in its manifesto in the 2014 and 2019 general elections promised on women reservation Bill. Now we demand from the BJP that the poll promise should be fulfilled in the parliament," the ex-MP said.
She said the BRS Party under the leadership of Telangana CM KCR passed a resolution on women reservation Bill and stated that whenever Lok Sabha passes the bill, BRS will support it. The CM also proposed an alternate solution wherein he suggested an increment in the number of MP seats by 33% to accommodate women to address the insecurities of leaders and parties and paving a way for the soft passing of the women's reservation Bill," Kavitha said.
On the Adani issue, Kavitha said, when anybody points out BJP failures, suddenly all the institutions are activated against that voice but why are the BJP govt and institutions silent on Adani issues despite several reports?, she said. The MLC said LPG rates were hiked to divert attention from Adani's issue.
While responding to a question on possible arrest in the liquor scam, Kavitha said she was not scared of any such threats and asked" "Is BJP arresting her or investigating agencies?"
