DCA busts illegal sale of cardiac drug to gym-goers, seizes 38 vials in Warangal

Hyderabad: In a crackdown on the misuse of prescription medicines in gyms, the Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) seized stocks of mephentermine sulphate injections that were allegedly being sold illegally to gym-goers for bodybuilding purposes in Charbouli, Warangal.

The raid led to the seizure of 38 vials of Termin Injection and exposed an alleged illegal supply chain targeting fitness enthusiasts.

During the inspection, DCA officials found stocks of mephentermine sulphate injection allegedly being stocked and sold by Mohammed Abdul Sohaib for misuse among bodybuilders.

Mephentermine sulphate is a cardiac stimulant used in hospitals to treat low blood pressure, particularly during surgical procedures involving spinal anaesthesia. The drug increases blood pressure by enhancing cardiac output and constricting blood vessels, and should only be administered under medical supervision.

However, officials said the drug is increasingly being misused in gyms to boost endurance and enhance physical performance. Health authorities warned that the abuse of Mephentermine injections can lead to serious cardiovascular complications and, in extreme cases, may prove fatal.
