Cop & wife booked for duping judicial staffer in land deal

Hyderabad: Madhura Nagar police registered a cheating case against a police inspector and his wife for allegedly duping a judicial department employee in a land sale transaction.On July 26, Madhura Nagar police took cognisance of a petition filed by MA Latha, 40, an employee of the judicial department, from Om Nagar in Yousufguda as per the directions from the court and registered a case against S Ravi Kumar, 39, inspector of police, CID, and his wife S Madhavi, 35, from Bandlaguda in Narsingi.Madhura Nagar inspector B Srinivas said they are in the process of gathering evidence but no arrests have been made yet in the case.According to police, the complainant had entered into an agreement of sale with Madhavi on January 5, 2019, to purchase 136 square yards of land in Bairagiguda, Narsingi, for 60.5 lakh. The complainant also paid 18.5 lakh as advance to the accused.After paying the advance, the complainant came to know that there were pending court cases on the property and cancelled the sale agreement. The accused had promised to refund the amount paid by the complainant and issued a cheque for 10.4 lakh. But the check was dishonoured due to insufficient funds, police said.The complainant alleged that when she brought the issue to the accused and visited their home, they spoke to her rudely. “The accused have deceived me and also warned me with dire consequences when I approached them for my money. Please take necessary action as per law,” Latha said.Based on the complaint, Madhura Nagar police registered a case against the accused under sections 406, 420 and 506 of the IPC.
