Telangana: Alcoholic dies day after video of son beating her goes viral
HYDERABAD: A 42-year-old woman, who was believed to have been addicted to alcohol, was found dead in suspicious circumstances in her Shadnagar residence on Monday. A video of her 18-year-old son beating her and trying to strangulate her the previous day had already gone viral.
Shadnagar police said Suguna was found dead by her son Shiva Kumar in the morning. Throughout Sunday, both mother and son were involved in a bitter fight over Suguna pestering Kumar for money to buy liquor and the latter beating her up on a few occasions.
When Kumar was getting ready to report for work, Suguna did not wake up. Though he tried, she did not respond. After locals came to know about it, they alerted police who confirmed her death and shifted the body to a hospital for a post-mortem examination.
“If the forensic experts confirm that it was an unnatural death, then we will alter the sections. We did not find any external injuries on her body,” Shadnagar inspector K Prathap Lingam said.
On Sunday at 9 am, Suguna asked her son to spare Rs 20 so that she could buy liquor. Kumar refused to give money and picked up an argument. “When she continued to insist that he give her money, he beat her up and tried to strangulate her with her saree ‘pallu’. She, however, escaped as she kept her hand between her neck and the pallu. Following an alarm, locals intervened and rescued Suguna,” police said.
Police said when he returned home to have lunch, Suguna was found in a drunken condition.

Feel sorry for the son. Alcohol creates many problems not only for the addicts but also for the relatives, friends and neighbours too.Read allPost comment
