of Khammam district in Telangana have busted a

ganja peddling gang

and seized 630 kilograms of the contraband worth Rs 1.2 crore.

Police arrested three accused on Sunday evening.

On Sunday,

Sathupalli CI Ramakanth

received alerts about ganja being transported in a van from

Rajahmundry

to Warangal via Sathupalli.

Acting on the tip-off, Sathupalli town police of Khammam commissionerate then intercepted a DCM van and a car near

Vijaya Dairy

.

The DCM van had empty trays in the container. Police removed the trays and verified the container as its bottom part appeared to have a secret compartment.

Cops removed the cover and found 630 kilograms of ganja packed in 290 polythene bags and wrapped with duct tape.

Sathupalli police inspector Ramakanth said that the gang was using its associates to travel ahead of the van in a car to alert it on police checking in advance.

Police arrested Srinivas Reddy of Visakhapatnam, Arjun of Jangaon district and Sandeep of Warangal.

The main accused, V Premdas, is absconding.

Police suspect that the gang was transporting the ganja to Warangal and from there it would be sent to other states.

The accused were sent in judicial remand.
