Kalyana K’taka monument replicas are displayed at new Parliament bldg
Kalaburagi: The replicas of rare monuments related to Samrat Ashok, which were found in Kalaburagi, Raichur and Koppal districts in the Kalyana Karnataka region, are displayed at the newly constructed Parliament building in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Sunday inaugurated the new monument. The huge display dedicated to the king includes the only depiction of Samrat Ashok along with his wife and two children found at Sannati in Kalaburagi district. Only edicts, emblems and pillars of Ashok have been found elsewhere in the country. The second replica is a stone script by Samrat Ashok written in Brahmi that was found at Maski town in Raichur district. The third one is an ancient map of India with a mention of Koppal and Maski. It is said that the display aims to introduce the upcoming generation to the great legacy of Ashok.Sannati is located on the bank of River Bhima in Chittapur taluk. It falls under the limits of Kanaganahalli. Since the historical temple of Sannati Chandralamba is located next to it, it is called the Sannati site. The sculpture in relief showing Samrat Ashok’s family is made of limestone. The script by Samrat Ashok on a huge stone on a hill in Maski town was found by C Biden, an engineer, in 1915. The ancient map is said to date back to Maurya and Shathavahana dynasties. The people in Kalaburagi, Raichur and Koppal districts are excited about the displays, complete with the names of these districts, at the new Parliament building. This has become a hot topic of discussion among them.
