Kalasa-Banduri ‘neglect’: Farmers from NK region upset with govts

Hubballi: If various demands, including the implementation of Kalasa-Banduri project and withdrawal of cases against farmers, are not met, black flags will be displayed on the houses of all farmers of north Karnataka, said Siddu Teji of Kalasa-Banduri Struggle Committee. He told reporters here on Friday, that they will tie black ribbons to hands to lodge their protest, during the visit of PM Narendra Modi to Dharwad district. “The PM has been visiting the state once a week, but still he is not looking into the problems of farmers of north Karnataka. Basavaraj Bommai has also not done anything for the project, despite being the CM,” he said. State president of Karnataka Raita Sena Sankaranna Ambali said the central and state governments are not solving the problems of farmers in the region.SIO prepares pro-edu manifestoHubballi: Political parties should include the demands of youth and students in their manifesto, said Jishan Akhil Siddiqui, president of the state unit of Students’ Islamic Organisation of India (SIO). He told reporters here on Friday, that the SIO has prepared a manifesto after discussions with teachers, students, education experts and others. “Whichever party comes to power, it should implement the manifesto,” he said, adding education is a fundamental right as per Article 21A of the Constitution. “Even 13 years after the implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act, only 23% of schools have the related infrastructure. The government is neglecting government schools to favour private ones. RTE Act must be implemented effectively in the state,” he said.
