Cfd demands probe, protests SIR in Hubballi
Hubballi: Citizen for Democracy (CFD) and Janadolana Maha Maitri planned a systematic campaign against Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll and held discussions with like-minded individuals and organisations to launch a protest against the process, with a virtual meeting scheduled on June 6.
Speaking to the reporters here on Wednesday, SR Hiremath of the CFD said the state elections in Bihar and West Bengal showed what he believed was a planned and coordinated effort between the current Union govt and chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He sought Gyanesh Kumar's resignation for the way he conducted the SIR process to date.
He also criticised use of terms like 'logical discrepancies' during the West Bengal election process and the rapid implementation of the controversial SIR exercise in Bihar and West Bengal just before the state elections. According to him, these actions raised serious concerns about the conduct of the elections.
He also expressed disappointment about the recent Supreme Court judgement, which upheld SIR process being conducted by the election commission of India, and said the judgment on recognising the right to vote as a constitutional right was to be welcomed.
On NEET question paper leak and discrepancies seen in CBSE, he sought resignation of education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, accusing him of playing with the future of lakhs of students. He alleged that the ministry led to creating a mess of irregularities, illegalities and criminalities, which would have the most adverse impact on the future of millions.
