Belagavi: Autorickshaw fare meters will be made mandatory, assured new city police commissioner T G Krishna Bhatta in his first conference after assuming office. Bhatta said he will hold separate meetings with RTO, autorickshaw associations, maxi cabs association and KSRTC to discuss the issue.

The police commissioner said he has already discussed the issue of traffic congestion with South and North traffic police officials. "There is staff shortage in the department due to which home guards have to be deputized. Special training will be given to home guards to manage traffic in the city till the vacant posts are filled. I have separate agenda to tackle traffic and parking problems," he said.

Bhatta said that he is planning to conduct a property parade to hand over recovered valuables to their owners.

To find out the problems faced by lower-grade policemen, Bhatta said he will visit police stations. He added that he has also sought a report from the deputy commissioner regarding the sand issue.
