NEW DELHI/CHITRADURGA (KARNATAKA): A 20-year-old individual died one day after attempting suicide by ingesting fertilizer.
The incident occurred after his grandfather reportedly declined his request for a new mobile phone, as reported by the police on Friday.
According to the police, Yashwanth lost his mobile phone during the 'Mahaganapati Shobhayatra' in his Kolahal village in this district on October 8.
In response, he requested his grandfather to purchase a replacement.
PTI quoted police as saying that Yashwanth's grandfather, who is a farmer, assured him that he would acquire a new cell phone for him once the onion harvest was complete.
Nevertheless, on October 18, Yashwanth insisted on receiving a new mobile phone without delay.
When his grandfather declined his request, he resorted to consuming fertilizer.
He was promptly rushed to a nearby hospital.
He died on Thursday while being transferred to a hospital in the district headquarters town of Davangere for further treatment, as stated by a senior police officer.
Yashwanth had been residing in the village with his mother and grandparents since his father's demise several years ago.
The officer mentioned that Yashwanth used to assist his family with farming.
