Dibrugarh: Titabor co-district administration, Titabor Municipal Board and Titabor Co-District Police administration on Tuesday jointly implemented a one-way parking system in Titabor town to tackle traffic congestion and disorganised parking.
The restricted zone covers the stretch from Titabor Chariali to Station Tiniali, one of the town’s busiest corridors. Under the new rules, parking on the right side of the road is prohibited on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays to improve traffic flow on the route.
Authorities said the system will be monitored in the coming weeks and additional measures may be introduced based on its effectiveness.
Titabor Co-District commissioner Bipanchi Dutta appealed for public cooperation.
“We have introduced this one-way parking system keeping in mind the convenience of the general public. Traffic congestion in Titabor town has been a concern for a long time. I urge every citizen, vehicle owner and shopkeeper in the area to cooperate with this initiative. The success of this system depends entirely on the participation of the people. We are doing this for the benefit of the town and its residents,” she said.
Officials said traffic personnel will be deployed along the restricted zone, particularly during the initial days, to ensure compliance and help residents and vehicle owners familiarise themselves with the regulations.
Locals have broadly welcomed the move, citing frequent traffic snarls and chaotic parking, especially during peak hours and market days, when movement along the Chariali–Station Tiniali stretch often slows to a near standstill.
