GUWAHATI: BJP general secretary and party in charge of Assam, Ram Madhav, charged the Congress party with forging an unholy alliance with AIUDF, a day after Badruddin Ajmal,

All India United Democratic Front

(AIUDF) chief and Dhubri MP, offered to help the Congress stem the saffron tide in the northeast.

"Everyone knows about the unholy nexus between AIUDF and Congress. People of Assam will reject such an alliance. The opposition does not have the courage and strength to face PM Narendra Modi. That is why they have formed alliances wherever possible," Madhav said at a press conference here on Sunday.

On Saturday, Ajmal offered to assist the Congress party, at an election campaign in Dhubri: "We are eager to help if Congress really wants it. We can sacrifice anything, even our electoral prospect, to stop the BJP.

AIUDF has 2-2.5 lakh votes in its favour in almost all the parliamentary constituencies; these voters can play a role in stopping BJP's progress in the state."
