Police issue security alert in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Police on Friday sounded a security alert in Guwahati after receiving intelligence of a possible militant attack. Sources said a group of Ulfa (Independent) militants had been trying to sneak into the city with the intention of carrying out subversive activities. Guwahati police commissionerate has asked all forces to man the entry and exit points of the city, besides vital installations like refineries, railway stations, airport and the interstate bus terminus. Police commissioner Hiren Chandra Nath told TOI, "A high alert has been sounded. A multi-layer security arrangement has been put in place."
