Over 600 Naga civilians safely brought back home, 100 students from Meghalaya evacuated

Guwahati: Assam Rifles troops have safely brought back home more than 600 Naga civilians stranded in neighbouring troubled Manipur in one of the biggest such evacuation exercises that was code-named ‘Operation Kohima Calling’.
A defence PRO said the operation was led by deputy Inspector General of IGAR (North) and about 80 personnel in coordination with the Nagaland state government and Nagaland Police evacuated the people on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Saturday evening said more than 100 students from Meghalaya have been safely evacuated from Manipur — 66 of them reached Shillong on Friday while another 40 reached the state capital on Saturday. A third batch of 40 students was evacuated on Sunday. tnn
