Mizoram BJP credits Centre for resolving state’s decades-old issues
Aizawl: Mizoram unit of the BJP has lauded the central govt under Prime Minister Narendra Modi for addressing long-standing challenges faced by the Mizo people. State BJP president Vanlalhmuaka highlighted the resolution of the decades-old Bru repatriation issue, saying, "For over 23 years, no govt could resolve the matter, but in 2019, Union home minister Amit Shah successfully brought a solution." He also emphasised the relocation of Assam Rifles from the heart of Aizawl city to Zokhawsang, a demand of the Mizos since 1987-88. "On April 1, 2023, Amit Shah inaugurated the new Assam Rifles battalion headquarters at Zokhawsang, and on March 15, 2025, the land vacated by Assam Rifles in Aizawl was officially handed over to the Mizoram govt," he said. Addressing concerns about the alleged plan to hand over Lengpui Airport to the Indian Air Force (IAF), Vanlalhmuaka said Shah had assured chief minister Lalduhawma that the airport would remain a civilian facility under the Airports Authority of India (AAI). "Amit Shah's commitment to addressing the concerns of Mizoram and its people is deeply appreciated by BJP Mizoram," he added. On the relocation of Assam Rifles, the state BJP chief explained that the move was necessary due to Aizawl's congestion and lack of space for future development. "The vacated land will contribute to making Aizawl one of the most beautiful cities in India," he said, expressing BJP Mizoram's support for utilising the land for the city's growth and development. He concluded by saying, "Under Modi's leadership and Amit Shah's guidance, God has provided an opportunity to alleviate the hardships of the Mizos, and we should be grateful for it."
