IMD alert for Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal

GUWAHATI:

The India Meteorological Department

(IMD) on Thursday issued an

orange alert

for Thursday and a yellow alert for the next 24 hours for Assam, Meghalaya and

Arunachal Pradesh

.

Deputy director-general of meteorology, Regional Meteorological Centre, Sanjay O’Neill Shaw said the southwest monsoon was active over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya and weak over Nagaland, Manipur,Mizoram and

Tripura

.

“Light to moderate rain occurred at most places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya,Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram; at many places over Tripura with isolated heavy falls over Arunachal Pradesh and heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely falls at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya.”

The advisory system is divided into three categories: the red warning—the highest advisory, which instructs people to “take action” and protect themselves from the imminent rough conditions; the orange alert, which says “be prepared” for rough weather; and lastly, the yellow watch, which suggests “be updated” on the weather in different localities.
