GUWAHATI: Congress’s deputy leader in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, has christened the regional version of NDA, NEDA (North East Democratic Alliance), as the “Northeast Drama Alliance” and said its convener Himanta Biswa Sarma cannot exempt BJP from the “failure” of the MDA government of which it is a part.

Himanta on Sunday had said in a poll rally in Shillong that the MDA government had failed to deliver and questioned where the money meant for development vanished.

While the Assam CM attacked the Conrad government saying medical colleges in Shillong and Tura did not see the light of day as promised and the government even failed to host the national games, Gogoi questioned why Sarma did not take up these issues as Neda convener before the election.

“Everybody is aware how the government was formed in Meghalaya with BJP playing an important role as a broker to form the post-poll alliance. Everybody is aware how close Himanta is with CM Conrad Sangma and how he was made CM. Now Sarma cannot absolve himself of the responsibility of denying the people of Meghalaya a government that should have been committed to working for the people of Meghalaya,” Gogoi alleged in a press conference in Shillong on Monday. “Wasn’t BJP MLAs Shanbor Shullai and AL Hek cabinet ministers in the MDA?” he asked.

Further, Gogoi accused the BJP-led government in Assam and other parts of the country of allegedly keeping Christians “under the radar”. “In Assam, police’s special branch SP sent out “secret” letters to all SPs in the districts seeking information on churches and religious conversion in the region,” he said.
