Dibrugarh university to hold Assam police job recruitment exam

GUWAHATI: Dibrugarh University, a premier education institute in Assam, will conduct the

recruitment test

for posts of sub-inspectors of Assam Police, as a part of the state government’s new policy not to hire third party private agencies for conducting

government recruitment process

. The move comes after the unearthing of an illegal racket in recruitment of sub-inspectors of the state police department.

The state cabinet on Wednesday ruled that government departments from now on will hold their respective recruitment examinations on their own or through state and central universities as a corrective measure following the question paper leak incident, during the selection test for Assam Police sub-inspector on September 20. Subsequent investigations by police on direct orders from chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal have led to blowing the lid off a thriving job racket in the state.

According to an official notification, Dibrugarh University will conduct recruitment test for police, home guards, prisons, panchayat and rural development and labour departments, while Gauhati University will conduct recruitment test for departments of industries and commerce, skill development, transport, excise, forest and environment.

Among the two central universities, the

Assam University

at Silchar will conduct the recruitment test for social welfare and soil conservation departments, while Tezpur University will conduct the recruitment test for the irrigation department.

For the past few years, the state government has been hiring third party agencies to conduct selection tests for recruitment in its departments. The responsibility for conducting the selection test of Assam Police sub-inspectors was given to Keltron of Kerala, which then hired two private agencies to carry out the tests on its behalf.

Earlier on Tuesday, state chief secretary

Kumar Sanjay Krishna

had told the media that to prevent such incidents, all government services related recruitment examinations, including to the state police, will be conducted through the universities.

So far, 14 people have been arrested, including former DIG PK Dutta, for their alleged connection in the recruitment racket.
