To convert the

power department

to a profit-generating department, the government has initiated several steps including "no electricity bill, no salary" for the government employees.

Power minister Bimal Borah told a press conference here on Monday that the department registered 124 big power theft cases across the state in the last month and collected Rs 11.65 crore as fine.

"Several factories and industries were caught in the last month. They have not paid electricity consumption bill for a long time. We have realized fine from them. Moreover, the power department has also caught several power theft cases," he added.
