Assam Police to hold India’s first national dialogue on children’s rights virtually tomorrow
Guwahati: Assam Police will hold India's first national dialogue—‘Infantia'—on children's rights virtually in Guwahati on Monday.Organized in collaboration with PIIR Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to protecting children's rights online and supported by UNICEF India, ‘Infantia' promises to be a landmark event that will spark critical conversations and pave the way for a safer and more inclusive digital world for children.According to the police, the event will take place from 10am to 2pm at Novotel Hotel. The national-level conclave builds upon the momentum of Assam Police's award-winning campaign, #DontBeASharent, further solidifying the state's commitment to addressing the challenges faced by children in the digital realm.Assam DGP Harmeet Singh stated, "We must go beyond policing and policy. We must become protectors of childhood in all its evolving forms. The internet is now a fundamental part of that journey. Assam Police is proud to lead this national conversation on placing children at the centre of the digital future."Adding star power to the event, Bollywood actor and parenting influencer Neha Dhupia will join as a guest speaker in a Fireside Chat, exploring how films, OTT platforms, and internet culture influence children's lives. Furthermore, a special cinematic performance by renowned actors Kopil Bora and Zerifa Wahid, conceptualized by Salik Khan, founder of PIIR Foundation, and scripted by acclaimed academic, film, and theatre critic professor Asha Kuthari Chaudhuri, will delve into the theme of parenting in the digital age, offering a unique and thought-provoking perspective.Other sessions at Infantia will include a discussion on bridging children's real-world and digital rights, a conversation on parenting in the screen age, a digital parenting workshop, and a presentation on research findings on digital parenting behaviour in India. These diverse and engaging sessions will provide a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in ensuring the safety and well-being of children in the digital realm.Infantia marks a significant milestone in Assam Police's evolving role as not just enforcers of the law but as empathetic partners in creating a digitally safe and nurturing environment for every child in India.
