Armed men rob items worth crores from Barpeta jewellery showroom
Guwahati: In a daylight robbery, armed men looted gold jewellery and other items worth crores from a showroom in Barpeta district on Friday afternoon.
Barpeta SP Pushkin Jain said thought the exact value of the stolen property is yet to be determined, the stolen property is estimated to be valued in crores.
“At present, a detailed inventory of the shop’s stock has not yet been prepared, making it difficult to determine the exact value of the stolen items. The precise amount can only be confirmed after the FIR is prepared and a thorough assessment of the losses is completed. Further details will be shared once the investigation progresses and verified information becomes available,” the SP added.
He said four to five armed robbers were involved in the incident. The accused allegedly threatened shop employees, creating panic at the scene. “Fortunately there were no injuries during the incident,” Jain added.
Police have launched an investigation into the matter. They have collected CCTV footage for examination and are recording the statements of victims and witnesses in an effort to trace and identify the criminals, who escaped after committing the crime.
Witnesses said the miscreants had their faces covered and were conversing in Hindi. To prevent resistance, they reportedly tied the hands of employees and gagged them.
The accused also snatched the wallets and mobile phones of the staff members before proceeding with the theft.
