Anmol in Guwahati Masters semis

17-year-old Anmol Kharb continued her good show as she kept her cool to beat defending champion Lalinrat Chaiwan of Thailand in the quarterfinals of Guwahati Masters Super 100 badminton tournament on Friday.Kharb, the country's rising women's singles star, fought back from 11-16 and 16-20 in the second game to earn two match points only to miss out. She faced a similar situation twice in the decider too, but this time converted the second opportunity to win 21-13, 22-24, 22-20 in an hour and 14 minutes to advance to the semifinals.Kharb, who was part of the Indian women's team that bagged a historic gold medal at the 2024 Badminton Asia Team Championships in Malaysia and also won titles in Belgium and Poland, will now take on Mansi Singh in an all-Indian semifinal clash. Mansi got the better of Thailand's Yataweemin Kateklieng 22-20, 21-18.In the men's singles category, third seed Sathish Kumar Karunakaran also made it to the last-four stage after defeating Saran Jamsri of Thailand 21-19, 21-13. In the semis he will face off against Chinese sixth seeded Wang Zheng Xing.Top seeds and defending champions Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto were the only Indian pair left in the fray in women's doubles after beating Chinese fifth seeds Huang Ke Xin and Tang Rui Zhi 21-18, 21-13 in the quarterfinals.Meanwhile, in the mixed doubles the pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto got the better of K Sathwik Reddy and Vaishnavi Khadkekar 21-16, 21-14.
