Gurgaon: Days after Sector 38 residents warned MCG of poll boycott for not fixing flaws in civic infrastructure, residents of Sushant Lok 2 have threatened to boycott the upcoming elections, saying their residential colony is lacking several basic amenities. They complained of damaged roads, overflowing sewers, poor sanitation, defunct streetlights and a lack of upgrade to the existing infrastructure.
Residents of Sushant Lok 2 have been grappling with various infrastructure challenges despite MCG taking over the colony in June 2022. All their repeated pleas and discussions with the civic authorities and local leaders yielded no positive result. On Sunday, a group of residents took to the streets, holding banners and chanting slogans such as “no road, no vote” and “no sewerage, no vote.” There are around 10,000 voters in the colony.
Vinay Mehta, a resident of E block, said, “What is the point of voting when our fundamental amenities are not being ensured by any political parties? We are being penalized for the fault of the developer and are forced to pay lakhs for an electricity connection, but no one pays any attention to our grievances.”
Meanwhile, the chief engineer of MCG, Vishal Bansal, said that the municipal corporation has been taking action as required in the colony. “Recarpeting of roads in the colony is already underway, but residents also have to understand that the construction of all lanes cannot be done in one day; rather, it is being done one block after another. All the sewer complaints have been attended to regularly. However, we will try to address their grievances," he said.
