GURGAON: For nearly three months now, residents of Sector 17C have been living in an unhygienic condition with stench emanating from sewage spilling on to roads.
Residents complained that sewage from Sukhrali village is released near the boundary wall of the sector because of which it is spilling on to streets. In January, MCG had carried out development work in Sukhrali village.
However, when residents objected to the connection of the village’s sewer line with that of the sector’s, MCG left the pipeline open near the boundary wall without any connection, leading to overflowing of sewage, they alleged. Several complaints have been made, but no action has been taken so far.
“Sewer have been overflowing in the area, covering the surrounding with filth and stench. I have been living here for the past 40 years but haven’t seen such conditions. Those living as tenants have the option to shift to some other sector, but we don’t have any choice,” said Sharda Yadav, a resident.
Overflowing sewage, they say, has also increased the risk of spread of waterborne diseases as the stagnated water is a ground for breeding of mosquitoes. “Due to carelessness ofcivic body officials, residents have been suffering for around three months now. We have met senior officials of MCG but only got assurances from them. They have not taken any step to fix it so far. The delay in fixing this problem could lead to serious health hazards. Pedestrians are forced to walk through this dirty water everyday. No human can live in such horrible conditions,” said Hitesh Bhardwaj, RWA president of Sector 17C.
Meanwhile, a senior MCG official said that the work got hampered due to the opposition of some residents, who were resisting connection of the village sewer line with the sector’s. “We have spoken to the residents to find a way out and the problem will be resolved soon.”
