MEWAT: Now, all non-governmental organisations, social service and religious groups working in
Mewat
will have to register themselves with the district administration. The instructions were issued on Thursday by deputy commissioner Ashok Sharma, who cited, residents’ safety as the reason behind the move.
All NGO’s, social and
religious bodies
in Mewat have a fortnight’s deadline to register themselves with the administration. Notably, many organisations visit Mewat on a regular basis to carry out social work in the area. However, officials said that majority of them do not inform the local authorities while doing so. The most recent example was when an
NGO
renamed Marora village as
Trump village
claiming that the US president would visit the area. However, no such trip was made, nor was any permission sought for the name change from the administration. Consequently, the renamed boards were brought down within a couple of days.
“Moreover, it isn’t clear if those visiting the area have only good intention. Now, we have instructed all
NGOs
and religious bodies to register themselves with the district authorities,” said Ashok Sharma, deputy commissioner, Gurgaon.
