GURGAON: The tall claims made by the Haryana Roadways that a bus stand at Sector 29, which was to be built as part of the transport department's upgradationprogramme, will be functional by March this year has come to naught. As visit to the proposed site of the bus stand after the promised month had ended revealed that except the boundary wall, no progress about the facility has been made so far.

The department had earlier announced an air-conditioned lounge for its luxury Volvo bus service to be established in this new facility. Besides, half of the buses plying in the city bus service were also supposed to originate from this new stand.
However, given the status of the project, commuters will have to wait for a long time before they are able to use this facility.
A visit to the spot on Wednesday revealed that except for one signboard stating that an ultra-modern bus stand will come up here, the place looked abandoned. On the name of ongoing construction work, as claimed by the Roadways officials, a boundary wall has been erected recently.
The bus stand is coming up next to Sector 29 police station. Long grasses and wild plants pervade the entire area. An amount of Rs 8 crore has been demarcated for this bus stand.
Roadways general manager Yashendra Singh had said in November that the air-conditioned lounge facility for Volvo bus passengers will be made functional by January 2013. The waiting lounge was supposed to have good seating arrangements with modern facilities like water coolers and LCD TV.

As far as starting city bus service from the Sector 29 bus stand is concerned, it was earlier decided that it will be initiated without waiting for the facility to be fully functional. Rather, it was to start with construction of a few bus bays.
Despite repeated attempts, Singh could not be contacted for his comments.
